So... About that Nausea

This will probably be a quick post because I probably only have about 10 minutes or so until the next wave of nausea hits me.  Silly me, for thinking that the worst might actually be over!  After enjoying all last week with little to no nausea or food issues, I told the OB on Monday that I thought those symptoms were resolving.  Since then, they've returned with a vengeance.  I have been non-stop nauseous since I got out of bed Wednesday morning.  If I were to rate nausea on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being actually puking) I would say the worst I've been (before this week) was maybe a 4 or 5.  These last few days, I've been at an 8 or 9.  So far, here's what I've found helpful in managing it (and my managing, I mean preventing myself from getting to a 10 because I really, REALLY hate puking):
  • Sparking water with lime (usually La Croix or Perrier) - the carbonation helps to settle my stomach.
  • Crystallized ginger and ginger ale - I know not every likes or can tolerate the taste of ginger, but the crystallized stuff isn't as potent and comes in smaller pieces.
  • Avoiding tomato-based foods - this part makes me sad because I love tomatoes.  Unfortunately, right now they are not sitting so well with my stomach.  Hopefully this part is over before the ones in my garden are ripe!
  • Plain, dry, multi-grain Cheerios - I eat a few handfuls as soon as I get up and whenever I feel another wave of nausea coming on.
Along with the above, I've been trying to focus on eating whatever appeals to me in the moment.  I feel hungry a lot, but very little sounds good.  And even things that don't necessarily sound offensive end up turning me off after a few bites.  So, on that note, here's what I'm having for dinner tonight:
  • Dill pickle spears - I'm currently eating them cold, straight out of the jar.
  • Plain brown rice - About a serving's worth with a little soy sauce mixed in (I'm on a major salt kick)
  • Grapes - Fruit has been sounding good a lot, but some textures are bothering me right now, so grapes it is!
Yes, I know there's no protein really in any of that.  But I had a lot of it at lunch during a brief reprieve from the nausea, so I think I'm okay for today.  And honestly, I cannot think of a single form of protein that I might want to eat (meat or plant-based).  So on that note, I'm off to eat my rice before the nausea returns!
