A Sleepless Night

Nathan is 9 months old now and we've gotten a bit spoiled lately with his sleep patterns. Lately he's been sleeping for 12+ hours without so much as a peep. Marvelous!  And then, out of no where, last night happened:

2:28 a.m. - Nathan starts screaming. Not whimpering or fussing... but full on screaming.
2:30 a.m. - P gets up and attempts to give him back his paci to see if he will calm down.
2:35 a.m. - Screaming louder. I go in to the nursery and Nathan scrambles over to the side to reach for me.
2:45 a.m. - After a failed attempt to rock and soothe him back to sleep, I give up and nurse him because I'm tired.
3:00 a.m. - He's back in his crib. Asleep? We think so...
3:20 a.m. - I'm just about to drift off when I hear a noise on the monitor. He's awake, sort of, and singing to his stuffed duck.
3:35 a.m. - Singing has turned into whimpering. Why isn't he asleep?!??
3:40 a.m. - Screaming. Again.
3:45 a.m. - I'm convinced it is pain from teething (he's been working on 2 more top teeth). I get up to go find the Motrin.
3:50 a.m. - Motrin is in, P has changed his diaper, and the screaming continues.
4:00 a.m. - P has walked him up and down the hall for 10 minutes and given him a 1/2 ounce from a bottle. Nathan is quiet, finally, and P lays him back down.
4:10 a.m. - P's pager goes off for a call in the neighboring town.
4:15 a.m. - Nathan begins screaming again. We've now tried everything. What else is there to do but let him cry? I feel like a terrible mom.
4:20 a.m. - Nathan is quiet again. P's pager goes off AGAIN.
4:25 a.m. - Nathan is lying still on the monitor. Maybe he is finally asleep? The stupid pager goes off a third time. This time for our town too. P shuts it off. He's leaving for work in an hour, he can't go on a call right now.
4:30 a.m. - P's first alarm chimes. The dog is snoring. Loudly. I hear a whimper on the monitor. DOES ANYONE OR ANYTHING ELSE FEEL THE NEED TO MAKE A NOISE RIGHT NOW?!
4:40 a.m. - Pager goes off a fourth time. I am livid.
4:45 a.m. - P's back-up alarm chimes and he gets up to shower. I desperately want to go to sleep but I am now wide awake.
5:30 a.m. - I've dozed off but am still aware of P getting ready for work. He comes in to kiss me goodbye before leaving for his 24-hour shift.
7:00 a.m. - I wake up in a daze after having fallen into a hard sleep sometime after 5:30. My arm is numb from laying on it. My head is pounding. I've now overslept and will be late for work. And Nathan is still sleeping. Of course he is...
